Security and confidentiality are critical components of a financial institution's online banking system. Public Employees Credit Union understands the security and privacy issues and concerns involved in an online banking environment. PECU is committed to provide safe and secure measures to protect PECU members account information and financial transactions being transported to and from their personal computers over the Internet.
Three key components incorporated in PECU e-Branch to provide safe and secure financial transactions over the Internet are Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), VeriSign Digital ID Certificate, and the firewall. All three components will be discussed in more detail to further educate yourself about your online banking system and maintain confidence when conducting transactions and inquiries.
Also, your PECU e-Branch access code is another security element that protects your account from unauthorized users. The account holder has control of the access code and can change at anytime. As with any other passwords or access codes you may have, please keep your PECU e-Branch access code confidential and protect it from others. Memorize your access code. Do not write it down where it is accessible to others.
During a login, you have three attempts at entering your access code. After three unsuccessful attempts your account will be frozen. Or if you have forgotten your access code, you must request to reset your access code. Only the primary member of the account is authorized to take the proper steps to reset, restore, or unfreeze the account. The joint owner(s) or authorized signer(s) of the account are not authorized. For security issues and concerns, PECU does not unfreeze accounts over the phone. The following procedures must be performed to restore or unfreeze you account:
- The primary member must request in writing to reset, restore or unfreeze the account.
- The request must include the date, account number, social security number, callback phone number and the primary member's signature.
- The primary member's signature is required on the written request for security verification.
- The written request can be mailed to PECU, delivered to any branch office, or submitted by fax at (512) 474-2731 to the attention of Membership Department.
This security verification measure is enforced and is effective if an unauthorized user or an impostor is attempting deceit by impersonating the primary member to access the account.
